Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Shelter, Springfield, MA. —August 2013
My friend does a lot of volunteer work for this local animal shelter, and she took on the project of giving the “meet and greet” room a makeover. I was lucky enough to get recruited for this project. Fresh paint, new furniture, plants and art work were just what this room needed to create a comfortable environment for families to meet and interact with their new best friends.
We started with cheerful wall colors and even painted an dog collar around the whole room, complete with a dog tag. Durable, washable furniture and dog themed accessories pulled the look together.
I created three paintings to add some artwork to the walls. I kept the dog images very simple, I wanted new dog owners to be able to picture any shelter dog in happy outdoor setting. I also reinforced the idea of the collar and dog tag, that matched the room.
It was a success! The Staff and Volunteers all thought it came out great.
